No doubt it will all come to light eventually but I have this feeling in my water that a huge mistake has taken place and it wasn't done maliciously or with any wrongful intent. That said, what a diabollically stupid thing to do! Nothing will correct it of course but I think it was Nigel that said that the landowner/contractor should be made to 'reinstate' it at the very least. What else they decide to do is up in the air I suppose.

Reinstatement is not the answer, you might as well put concrete blocks in as they have done at Avebury, where has the bulldozed soil ended up for a start?, do you put a hedge in to show the line? The original part of the henge is lost, nothing will make it come back. You can punish the offender, but you can't replace a prehistoric 'henge' It's value, for it had a unique value lay in its faint traces of circularity that married up with the other three henges. Best photos were always aerial of the whole complex, perhaps now someone will put up a bloody big sign saying this is a Scheduled Ancient Monument , damaging it will result in prosecution and a large fine.

And hi Rhiannon, it was lovely to see you the other day made me feel homesick for Bath Central library for a while ;) though of course it must have gone down hill by now.....
