Hi dude.
Just read your "slap" post in regards to Sanctuary climbing Silbury, Have you never climbed it. ?
It's well known, due to previous posts that EH ask people not to climb it for certain reasons, is that why you wouldn't climb it or are there other reasons. ?
I'm of the opinion it was intended to be climbed, though by whom and when i have no idea, suppose it's just a gut feeling really.
I have climbed it quite a few times and i'm sure your aware others have been given permission to do the same, are you of the opinion no-one should ever climb it for whatever reason. ?
Your obviously of an opposite opinion to myself on this that's why i'm directing these questions at you, to gain an opposite perspective.
I suppose i should point out i take your "slap" comment tongue in cheek and realise it's not an actual threat to Sanctuary, and should also point out this is a genuine question asked to gain an opposite view to my own and not an attempt to start yet another tit for tat round of posts, just a genuine question to understand your view.
Geoff.
Btw, i'll probably lock this after your initial response.

Howdy!
Well, there's no need to lock it, but there's no great mystery to my opinion on this...
I'm with Aubrey Burl when he says "...Silbury Hill should be seen but not climbed". My reasoning is that I believe we should lead by example. If I thought it was OK for ME to climb it, it's suggesting I think it's OK for EVERYBODY to climb it - which, obviously, it really isn't!
Can you imagine the state of it if the millions of people who visit the area each year climbed it?
I've never climbed it, nor do I feel the need to, so most likely never will! I like it just the way it is... :)
And yes - of course I was joking about giving Sanctuary a slap! :D I'd not admit to that kind of thing on a public forum. It'd ruin the element of surprise. ;)
