I've known for quite a while now about a circular feature on one of my local moors (in Derbyshire) 150 - 200 metres diameter that only appears as a "crop mark", well it's not actually in a crop as such but in grassland. You can't see it on Google earth etc and it's almost impossible to photograph but when pointed out it's very clearly visible to the naked eye, i pointed it out to another TMA member today and he could clearly see it It's situated within a well known prehistoric landscape but on quite steep slope. I don't know of any ancient feature that would fit the bill despite much research. Anyone any suggestions as to what it could be. ? Cheers.

I've no suggestion as to what it may be - only the advice to not let go of it. Try and capture a picture of it, keep going. Stand at the centre of the circle and see whether anything else in the landscape seems significant, then identify those. Good luck - there were a lot of people living in the hills in prehistoric times and I guess that was because the lowlands were full of trees.

Bigger than Arbor Low and The Bull Ring (both c.90m diameter). Is the circle unbroken, as far as you can tell? Any sign of an entrance gap? If it's on a slope could it be a former field system? For comparison, Avebury is 368m diameter, Stanton Drew 113m. So whatever it is, it's pretty big by prehistoric standards. Have you looked at any old large-scale OS maps to see if anything shows up?

There are lots of well known prehistoric features all around, it's right in the heart of some of Derbyshires best known sites. !

Hi tsc. I may be overdoing the estimated diameter, problem with the feature is you have to stand at least half a mile away to see it. It's not a full circle, probably 200 degrees unbroken. I have tried to photograph it but fook all shows up, it is very clearly visible with the naked eye though. Maybe it's nothing, there's no chance of getting an archaeologist to look at it, well i doubt so.
