This report is more realistic and suggests stones could have been present although they headline it as a stone circle!

No stones known to have stood at Marden.

Marden is a henge, not a stone circle.

Rhiannon is correct.

It will be interesting to see if they ever were there like the majority of reports over the past few weeks suggest they were.

Well, the majority of reports you have been reading seem to be by journalists, not archaeologists.

Post holes have been detected within the henge; no stone holes.

Yet.

Rhiannon,

I think that the pre-dig conjecture was that it did have stones, simply because of the comparison of its size with that of Avebury and Stonehenge. No evidence yet though.

It'd be great if they found evidence of another huge stone circle, eh?

TE.

The site is far more likely to be similar to Durrington Walls than either Stonehenge or Avebury.

No stones at Durrington Walls.

Baza,

Agreed, but who knows what may come up? Hope it's stone holes, me? What about you?

TE.

I have no hopes for what they may find.

I believe that there have already been enough investigations of the henge to have discovered any stone setting, if it had existed.

Already, this most recent dig has found signs of a settlement. You don't come across buildings within stone circles, or most henges.

At Durrington Walls, Mike Parker Pearson stood on a neolithic floor and told me: "You can't see another one of these this side of Skara Brae." Right now, you can.
