New Maze in South East Cornwall
Feb 24, 2010, 00:48
A quick plug for a friend of mine who has created a maze on a stretch of the coast just to the east of Looe. She has used the circular swirley pattern (not good on my maze terminology!!!!) that we are all familiar with.
Anyone walking the SWCP will be able to try the maze out as it is just beside it.

See a small piece about it at http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article7036880.ece

I have not been out to it yet but plan to asap...will report back if I can find my way out!

It's a beauty! I love a good mizmaze, me... There was a nice (modern) one on top of the ridge at Studland, just up from Old Harry Rocks, a year or 2 back, just traced out in small stones, as I recall. Always enjoyed an aimless meander around that one!

We also found one in the churchyard at Duloe some years back - I think that was just mown into the lawn. Looked really nice though!

I am actually going to be in Penzance for a week in April with the intention to do some walking to the West Cornwall ancient sites. May go up to Looe for a day (if it is do-able by public transport) as I believe there are some ancient sites nearby - will definitely make a visit if there is time. Seven fold mazes are a bit ... I want to say magical but I will settle for very interesting for now.

Hi tjj

Penzance to Looe by train is a great day out...about £8 return I think...You change at Liskeard and trundle down the valley to Looe on our wonderful branch line.

The maze is about an hours walk to the east along the Coast Path...

If you return to Liskeard by bus then you could hop off at Duloe for an hour and see the Stone circle.

alert me before you come down...might be able to meet up.

...When you and the Goffik tribe descend on sunny Cornwall again I'll take you out there...the one at Duloe was a swirl of flowers planted in the new graveyard...nice while it lasted..

Thanks for that - I'll make a note and keep it handy, your contact details are on your website so I'll jot those down too. Main objective is to see as much of the Penwith sites as possible; Boskawen-un and the rest, I really want to go back to Lamorna as well. I will be taking a photocopy of that section of TMA with me.
I've been to St Ives loads of times but never to Looe to it would be good to get up there for the day.

I saw the Duloe one on Google Earth - it looked concreted, but by the time I'd got there, no trace remained :-(

We're off down there next month again. No concrete (ha!) plans as yet, but if we find ourselves over Looe way we'll give you a shout for a beer again.

I read somewhere online about plans to make a stone miz-maze somewhere up near Helland - Delford Bridge? Did anything ever come of that, and is it visitable?

Yeah - I remember that! Not heard anything since tho...

This may be of relevance/interest: http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/5316/images/delford_bridge_menhir.html (although it doesn't really answer your question! :D )
