For some time now, certain discussions on the forum have moved beyond the realms of reasonable debate and have degenerated into a series of tit-for-tat personal attacks, usually between the same few people. In TMA Eds' opinion, on a number of occasions the attacks have bordered on the libellous. More importantly, these negative exchanges are seriously undermining this forum as a place for discussing megalithic sites and issues, and damaging the site as a whole. We have written confirmation that several existing contributors as well as many casual visitors are being chased away by some the aggressive and negative posting in these discussions. We do not want to excessively censor this forum, discount anyone's opinions or deny the importance of particular issues. But we have reluctantly decided that, in order to maintain the function and growth of this site and to come back into line with its original remit, we will be monitoring the forum closely. Any personal attacks, name-calling, unnecessarily aggressive comments, unfounded or unreasonable accusations, or general unnecessary vitriol will result in the poster's account being suspended. We are very sad that we find it necessary to 'police' the forum in this way but feel we can no longer tolerate this kind of behaviour. Regards TMA Ed

We are unpinning this thread and will now allow it to drift away. We will, however, continue with the close monitoring of the forum. We hope the forum can continue in the sensible fashion it is maintaining at the moment, with reasonable debate, discussion and mutual respect. Thanks TMA Eds.

Regards TMA Ed A more closely monitored forum wouldn't hurt really. I think most people are fine on here. I've never been the victim of an attack but then again I'm more active on the Irish sites and there's less of us...particularly FourWinds is gone... I'd be in favour of those responsible being deleted or temporarily suspended...they're not here for discussion...just trolling.

I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again, this forum really could do with more active moderation. Temporary bans, expulsions and warnings would only be necessary very rarely once started. Especially if publicised to make it clear to all users what is and what isn't tolerable behaviour. This place has considerably less blatant trolling than other forums, the badness is because people have known each other for years on here and elsewhere and the bitchyness has been allowed to fester. So little digs are constantly made from all sides to wind people up more and more. tldr - mods, please stick your boot in

I wasn't part of the forum at the time you made the original post about bad behaviour above, to which you've added this reply/update. So I don't know how bad it was then. Seems like a timely reminder of how much better it is now than then, and to maintain the good work, though. I must admit, most stuff goes over my head. It's too subtle or I'm too obsessed with something or other to notice I guess. Obsession inducing site - that's for sure - keep it up. Did get a shock before I noticed the date on the first post - before I realised you'de bumped it up and added an update though. Place seems so nice n' all(at least to us gormless types).
