Battle of the Beanfield 20th anniversary
Feb 23, 2005, 13:16
Hi there,
As this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Battle of the Beanfield, when, with extreme brutality, Thatcher's quasi-military police hit squad decommissioned an advance convoy travelling to Stonehenge to set up the 12th Stonehenge Free Festival, I'm organizing a number of events.
The first event is as follows:
Wednesday 16 March 2005, 7.30 pm
Kebele Kulture Project, 14 Robertson Rd, Easton, Bristol, BS5 6JY
Kebele will be showing 'Operation Solstice', the acclaimed 1991 documentary about the Beanfield, I'll be giving a talk based on my counter-cultural history of Stonehenge - 'Stonehenge: Celebration and Subversion' - described by John Hodge of SchNEWS as 'the best bit of modern British social history I've seen', and there's also going to be a photo exhibition, featuring photos by Alan Lodge (Tash) and Adrian Arbib, as well as some rarely-seen photos by Tim Malyon and Ben Gibson. Please note that the exhibition will run until Thursday 7 April.
All the best,
Andy Worthington
