Been wondering about this myself. Cork seems to be getting more popular, although I don't fancy having cork crumbs stuck in the grooves much! My turntable has a metal platter with a smooth surface and I've always used felt mats, but have been tempted to try acrylic or something else.

Ive got felt on the Thorens, cork on the AR,and a rubber one off an '80s Sansui kicking around somewhere.
Ive never thought of swapping them about,I might have a tinker later.
One point to make, white vinyl straight out of the wrapper and a flick over with an anti-stat brush, when I flipped sides I was surprised by the amount of fibres the mat had shed and its not a cheap knock off,its Thorens supplied.
