This is exactly the book I was thinking of when I saw this thread, but couldn't muster the wherewithal to write a post. Highly recommended. Aside from all the Anvil-like hilarious tales of failed bids to stardom, the guy really has a point when he talks about inventing punk. Out of all the proto-punk cuts I've heard, Sick On You, from 1973, most accurately presages the reality of what punk sounded like.


That's the only track I've ever heard. Must investigate further. My local library has the book so that's something to look forward to.
