Thanks. A wildlife man from the English village I lived in knew the otters in the local river: I regret not seeing them before I moved. A mutual friend of ours was dying (and sadly died) and the wildman used to phone me for updates and stay on the phone for a couple of hours talking about the badgers and owls etc. He kept things secret from most people because of hunters, baiters etc.

I was overjoyed to hear the words "bitch otter" in a conversation!

This chap is a dying breed. He left school with no qualifications as such but is held in such esteem for his encyclopedic knowledge of the natural world that even university researchers visit him. They hold 'moth watch' evenings etc. The wildman hasn't even got a computer. He and his equally able brother live with their dog and just manage this self-made reserve which spreads into the local countryside.

I have to visit him at some point, as we agreed to scatter our friend's ashes near Shut-Eye's owl box.
