Oh, I think they were more than a footnote band. I remember being the only dude in a queue stretching twice around the block outside Newcastle City Hall in late '78 that wasn't there to buy Ash tickets (Buzzcocks tickets went on sale the same day!). They were effing massive up here - one of those bands I kidded myself I didn't like at the time before later coming out, so to speak!
Hookfoot were good too, mind. As were Sassafras - remember them? I penned a review for one of their albums on this very site some years ago which was quoted in a subsequent CD reissue - but attributed to Julian Cope. I wonder how the Drude felt about being associated with mid-70's twin guitar Welsh raack?
