If you're after some prog leaning extreme stuff you might like (yet) another Scando band called Ansur.
Their first album "Axiom" is kinda black metal with proggy leanings - I like it, you might - but the 2nd album "The Warring Factions" is a full on extreme prog metal mess of madness even to the point of having a cheesey sax solo that actually works! They do have cookie monster vocals so buyer beware if it ain't your thing. They're annoyingly young too.
In the same spiky ball on a chain park as Opeth are a band called Farmakon, which is basically a case of low budget Opeth worship and also a band called Memfis.
I really like the mighty Mastodon (USA) too. A mix of stoner, sludge and thrash with a mix of clean and WAUURGH vocals and some of the most brilliant metal drumming around. The albums "Blood Mountain" and the gorgeous "Crack the Skye" may tickle your extreme prog fancy.
And so, in conclusion, WAUUUUURGGHHH! Wheeeee oooooo spleeee dink dink uuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm blip blip THRANG! Wazooo!
