The Experimental Institution Radio Show
Mar 11, 2010, 19:09
OK, not all of it's that experimental, but there's some awesome, unsung classics on there. They're for the site greenfuturesfestivals, who also transmit live in Brighton.

This isn't just me shamelessly spamming Head Heritage, by the way, I'm a huge fan of this place...but thus far have resigned myself to just lurking. That'll be amended soon.

The Horror! The Horror!: http://www.archive.org/details/TheHorrorTheHorrorRadioShow. Jean-Claude Vannier, Univers Zero, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Bob Drake, Penderecki, Spires That in the Sunset Rise etc.

Post-Psyche (kind of a made-up term, but believe you me, all the hacks will be dropping it in five years time): http://www.archive.org/details/3simonpostpsyche. Exuma, Yoko Ono, International Harvester, Os Mutantes, Love Live Life + 1, The Seeds (Fallin')!

Post-Punk show: http://www.archive.org/details/SimonsPostPunk. Blue Orchids, Tall Dwarfs, Chrome, Art Bears (I've gotta disagree with Mr. Cope about them being "dry wank"), Family Fodder, L.Voag, This Heat, After Dinner and more!

Krautrock: http://www.archive.org/details/6simonkrautrockshow Walter Wegmuller, Faust, Sand, Liliental, Neu etc.

Garage Rock: http://www.archive.org/details/10Simon-GarageRockRadioShow Simply Saucer, Nathaniel Mayer, Destroy All Monsters, Troggs, Les Rallizes Denudes (probably shouldn't have been on this show, but they're too awesome not to pimp in any context). Also, I think this is the show where I shamelessly crib JC's word "klatterstompf."

Mutant Pop: http://www.archive.org/details/4simonmutantpop. Cardiacs, The Legendary Pink Dots, Julian Cope, Thinking Fellers Union #283, Stump, Brian Eno etc.

Acid Folk: http://www.archive.org/details/5simonpsychedelicfolk. Comus, Big Blood, Hoelderlin Traum, These Trails, Paavoharju, Spyrogyra, Wicker Man OST, Malicorne, Leonid Fedorov, Buffy Sainte Marie etc.

Electronic: http://www.archive.org/details/7simonelectronic. Heldon, Silver Apples, GAM, Electric Orange, Algarnas Tradgard, Ilitch, Pan Sonic etc.

A Little Bit of Soul: http://www.archive.org/details/11simon-ALittleBitOfSoul. The Chicago Art Ensemble, Shuggie Otis, Cymande, Sly & The Family Stone, Allen Toussaint, Eugene McDaniels etc.

There are a few more, and I'm doing a new show every week, so if you want some more ear candy or crash-courses into genres you're looking to getting into, I'm uploading them onto internet archive here: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Simon%20Maxwell-Stewart%22

Keep on keeping on!

Wow, and the prize for best ever first post goes to you!

Thanks for all this, will post again when I've listened to a couple, but the band choices look impeccable to my eyes.

Nice.

Last two shows (for now) on the music of different countries:

The Japanswer! Featuring: Tokyo Kid Brothers, Haco, Ghost, Altered States, Yoko Ono, Magical Power Mako, Bondage Fruit, High Rise and more... (Don't mind the gibberish Engrish intro. I translated it to Japanese and back with Babel Fish for extra authenticity).

In Like Finn - Circle, Pan Sonic, Kemialliset Ystavet, Blues Connection and a whole host of other bands with unpronouncable names.

Peace.

Keep 'em coming Sin!

Oh, is your Comedy show number 1 (I'm collecting them and the ones I have start at number 2)?

Well I guess it beats Pokemon cards.

I started out with the Comedy show and Post Punk episodes figuring they'd be one-offs, but there's so much music just screaming to be heard out there!

After seeing a woman walking around in this t-shirt the other day, I think I'll have enough ideas for six months more shows at least. ;) I s'pose I'll call it quits when I run out of accents.

And again, I'm really psyched you're listening, dude. Thanks.
