I think the new album is great, but as mentioned in this article, a deluxe First New Rays Of The Rising Sun, will really be something.

It's a really solid record and head and shoulders above anything contemporary ploughing a comparable musical field (Govt Mule anyone?)though some of the reviews are surprisingly brutal. Listening to this set you get the feeling that Hendrix is more alive and relevant in 2010 than any blues rock guitar players who are actually still with us in body. There's not much around from this century that is unmissbale from the blues rock traditionalist wing of rock n roll - this and the last couple of Black Crowes albums. That's it. Doesn't say much for 40 years worth of "development" in classic rock as a genre.

Rite on. Crowes and all. Good call.

Picked up Valleys today at my lovely local hole-in-the-wall independent record emporium, haven't played yet as have other things to do with my brain first but looking madly forward.

do you normally read the telegraph? thought that had political connotations best avoided. or did you just stumble across that review?
hadn't really thought of the Telegraph which I thought was thoroughly Conservative in most things, as being a place I'd check for reviews.

Does that comment on where Hendrix stands these days in terms of acceptance? I guess every radical gesture becomes commonplace with enough chronological distance?

Dunno about the Telegraph but The Sun have been one of the most supportive papers when it comes to folk and acoustic music in recent months. They review really interesting records you don't read about in The Guardian or Indie. Thinking about it for a sec the only newspaper or news oriented magazine where I have noticed there to be a strong direct relationship between the editorial politics and the arts coverage is probably New Statesman.

I don't read any particular paper, or buy them. I have a quick skip through all the broadsheets on line, and don't bother with the others.
I'm a dedicated media filter. These days, you have to screen what you allow into your mind re. any media. I'm very careful what I ingest into my head. You have to be vigilant about what you feed into your mind, or you get mentally egg bound or the psychic trots.
