Considering they are the ultimate cartoon band it is ironic that Kiss are probably the most real, least artificial, rock and rollers of all.
I love the fact that people want to defend Kiss are being somehow hypereal and not beholden to the man, but strip away the artifice and what's left, serviceable boogie.
I realise that Kiss are way beyond just music, in fact the entire success is not based on the music but the package, which is what I suspect irritates most people, but when it comes to the nuts and bolts of what's on offer there are 7 out of 10.The music of Kiss is at best passable and at its worse bloody horrible.
They may be most real & least artificial but only because they deliver the KISS Show, much the same way Oasis give the Oasis show [or did] or The Who have been doing the Who show for the last 30 years and we don't claim the lofty heights of independence for them, we call them plodrockers
to summarise, KISS ok, deserving of some but not all the praise/contempt they get
