The police, already active with drone planes to survey such dangerous activities like summer solstice at Stonehenge, are planning to 'revolutionise' policing by using them a hell of a lot more. Don't worry, the innocent have nothing to fear... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jan/23/cctv-sky-police-plan-drones

Perhaps SunnO))) could help them out? Just been announced in Manchester that the Police are to wear name badges as well as their ID numbers. Think it's a good idea meself.

Carter et al are suddenly patrolling Manchester.

And it will be those nice folks over at BaE that get the work? Marvellous. All above board then.

odd idea. Is it based on an attempt to humanise the police force in the public's minds or something? Thought they'd be against that. Thought ideas of efficiency put uniform ahead of the individual or something. Like group as unit not individual drones. Also thought the idea/concept of there being a law enforcement service relied on a level of abstraction, separating the law enforcing individual/institution from normal society. Which is one reason why privateised prisons are questionable. If the individual/personal is applied it undermines that abstraction that allows the concept to work. Traditionally you're being arrested by a uniform that is instituted to perform a certain function that oils the cogs of society, once this uniform is reduced/morphed into an individual it alters the interface. Wonder if it'll lead to more resisting of arrest, since the person who's arresting you is brought down to a similar level as the arrestee? Stevo

I'm all for the Police having any resource they can reasonably use for the hugely though job of policing this island. Don't let the fact that alot of them are corrupt bastards make you think for one second that we do not need a police force

Quote: "...alot of them are corrupt bastards...". Hmmm, how can a lot of corrupt bastards uphold the law?

In all seriousness, what do you propose? Disbanbding the police? and then what? Try calling an activist when your video is nicked (as the old Ben Elton joke went) The police is far from perfect. And a lot of them are bastards - but not all. There are police (and I know some of them) who uphold the law (you may not agree with the law, not the point) and do their best. We should encourage those, and make it clear we will not put up with the bastards

The general blurb in the local news here was that it was, as you imply, an effort to humanise the rozzers a bit more and make them more approachable on the street. Plus, in the wake of the recent London protest scandal, where there were instances of the police covering their ID numbers up, it's a move to win back a little trust.
