Rush Limbaugh: http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201001130018 Limbaugh: Obama will use Haiti to boost credibility with "light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country" Pat Robertson: http://www.delawareliberal.net/2010/01/13/pat-robertson-haiti-deserved-it/ Pat Robertson: “When these disasters strike, we are there to help the people. And you know… Christy… something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it, they [Haitians] were under the heel of the French and uh you know, Napoleon the third or whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the Devil and they said we will serve you if you get us free from the French. True story. So the devil said ‘okay, it’s a deal’. And they kicked the French out, you know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free, but ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other, desperately poor. That island of Hispanola is one island, cut down the middle, on one side is Haiti and on the other is the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have a great turning to God Thats over the rainbow fucking nuts.

Hard to believe anyone would be so absolutely without scruples to take a tragedy like this and try to make political/religious hay out of it, eh? Both of those fatheaded old assholes should roast in their own grease, slowly.

It's a tried and tested one that. Mother Theresa was an expert at it. Haiti is a predominantly Catholic nation, by whatever means (gun and bible no doubt). Keep a nation (preferably a poor one) in fear of god, and as soon as disaster strikes, make sure you get it through to them they somehow must've brought it on themselves. Then indulge your fetish as you watch em scramble their hands to the heavens wondering how they can be better people again. Stupid sick bastard. EDIT: Oh and any morsels that do come your way, well you got god to thank for that one too! Can now feel every so slightly less guilty about the air you breathe. Mother Theresa honed that one brilliantly, ensuring that despite major donation bonanzas, what they received were 'morsels' indeed. x

You might convince a few Haitians that they are stupid for being Catholic, but most would probably be offended at the idea that they have been 'forced' into it. Even if the whole of that island cast off their religion and took up atheism (which many people here seem to think is the answer to most of the world's ills) they'd still be poverty stricken and stuck in a place on earth where natural disasters are inevitable. They sit on a major faultline, are in 'Hurricane alley', and are resource-poor. Dodge isn't saying that religion in general is the problem with Haiti. He was specifically pointing out two very partisan individuals here who's motives are, in the case of Limbaugh, political, and in the case of Robertson, racism thinly coated with phony piety.

Of course I know that Haiti was a hotbed for Voudou (Voodoo) beliefs. That's probably not gonna save them from this predicament, though... But Haiti as well as many South and Central American nations always had that Africanized occultic undercurrent...

Read Christopher Hitchens' 'The Missionary Position' and you'll understand exactly what I mean. I'm not against anyone beign religious. Would make as much sense as being against people worshipping ancient stones. And eh, of course natural disasters happen where and whenever, regardless. Your analysis of what I posted misses the point. x
