[/url] hmmm.... I was intriqued, so I came across this from the 'free dictionary and thesaurus'........ ___________________________________________________________________________________ Adj. 1. hokey - effusively or insincerely emotional; "a pathetic novel"; "maudlin expressions of sympathy"; "mushy effusiveness"; "a schmaltzy song"; "sentimental soap operas"; "slushy poetry" kitschy, maudlin, mawkish, schmaltzy, schmalzy, bathetic, sentimental, slushy, soppy, soupy, mushy, drippy emotional - of more than usual emotion; "his behavior was highly emotional" 2. hokey - artificially formal; "that artificial humility that her husband hated"; "contrived coyness"; "a stilted letter of acknowledgment"; "when people try to correct their speech they develop a stilted pronunciation" Stilted, artificial, contrived, affected, unnatural - speaking or behaving in an artificial way to make an impression. ____________________________________________________________________________________ I take it your reply was directed at all the folk who replied, I was merely putting up a link for you to see what the 'state of play' is over here with 'The P word' in question. You yourself can use whatever term you like about different races, creeds or people in general, as most people in private (of all races) do this to a certain extent, however much people think it doesn't happen, it does (which certainly doesn't make it right, it's just human nature). I was just giving you a guide should you ever visit the UK, thus saving you getting in any embarrassing situations or at worse, set upon by anyone directly 'connected' to such a term.

Jim Tones wrote: Judging by that audio clip, it would also appear to decide upon who you are and in what 'context' a person uses the word, whether it's deemed 'offensive' or not- that said, ol' john Humphrys was throwing the word around like a kid with an open tin of paint! Now John Humphrey's is another matter. He irritates me. Beleives in his own celebrity too much. I've a feel'ng I'm in a minority but I think he's a bit of a 'bad actor' to say the least. Anything that's featured that slightly resembles popular culture and he almost balks at having to report on it. So therefore I find him a tad 'ignorant'. x

James, i'd be much more concerned about an irate hokie than a pissed off pakistani... x x x
