http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/latest-news/1091-100-days-to-save-dla-a-aa-from-the-axe This is hardly a surprise, but seeing as no-one here has brought the subject uip yet, this article contains details on the government's plans to "streamline" the benefits system yet again by picking on some so society's most financially vulnerable people. As usual, of the mainstream parties, only the Lib Dems - who have no hope of being elected - have ruled out implementing this green paper. I know several folk for whom DLA has been a vital lifeline at certain points in their life, and the paper is due to go before the Lords in less than three months, so it's important that as many people as possible register their disapproval. Several charities such as the Arthritis Society and the RNIB are already circulating a petitions which can be signed here: http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/disability-living-allowance-(dla)/dla-aa-cuts

I think this is important enough to deserve a bump. There's another site where people can air their views, and read those of others, here: http://careandsupport.direct.gov.uk/greenpaper/execsum Most of the comments posted there so far add up what I'd consider to be a pretty persuasive argument. There's a petition due to be launced on the number 10 website shortly too.

... and judging from the lack of response so far, I'm guessing this isn't considered a priority issue around here. Anyhow, it looks like the news may be good: http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/latest-news/1110-dla-is-not-under-threat----be-very-happy-says-government-minister Surely that url's got to be worth a visit for the comedy value of that last sentence alone!

Sorry Popel, missed this before. I think you're right, it is important. I hope there is a positive outcome, although it looks as though AA is probably still to go. I don't know much about all this, I must admit.

Oh, no need for either of you to apologise. It looks as though the petition has at least partially succeeded its objectives, which was a better result than I expected, to be honest - I thought the signatories would either get the usual aloof lack of response, or a glib attempt to justify the government's (now former) position.

Well, sort of crap hippies. Cheers for the update :) I was worried about the implications for a member of my family, as it looked like it was giving a sideways glimpse of the way the new personal care plans might go. (i.e. nice idea, but eminently fuckaboutable by plutocratic purseholders).
