It's not about offending people it's about destroying archaeological information.
Personally, claims that people have a hunch Silbury was for climbing leave me cold when I know the archaeology is immediately sub-surface and could be damaged and equally hunches (whether right or wrong) that The Sanctuary is for burying oneself don't impress me if archaeology may be damaged.
The only sacred thing about those two sites (in my unspiritual opinion) is The Knowledge. That oughta be regarded as in sacred trust for the future...
