Geoff, you mentioned it not showing on google earth but have you tried the 'historic mapping' option (the clock icon)? On the 1999 maps I can sort of see a circular area but it's about 300m across and looks like it is partly formed with paths/tracks on the west side. Inside it there's a cleared patch in the undergrowth but that's only about 60m diameter. Interestingly in the trees to the right, the ones at the north also appear to form a circle about 100m across but satellite images are like magic eye pictures to me, if I stare long enough I could probably see 3D elephants.
I dunno really. Given the proximity to Swine Sty my first thought would be some kind of enclosure but drawings I've seen place the enclosures/field systems etc on the higher ground to the north with the settlement site at the bottom of the steep slope and don't show anything to the east where your feature is. Doesn't mean there's nothing there of course.
