It has come to the TMA Eds notice through the board and through emails we have received that there are people here, who shall remain nameless, who have personal enmities.
These enmities are not always clear on the board itself but they are fostering general paranoia & friction. We neither know nor care who is in the right or wrong in these enmities but for some time this has been causing an unacceptable signal to noise ratio on the board.
We Eds have little time to deal with such matters and had been forced to trust that they would fizzle out. This does not seem to be happening, so we are reluctantly going to take action.
In the future, in their inevitably subjective judgement, if the Eds suspect that there is any personal vendetta or deliberate troublecausing in ANY post, the poster will either be warned or summarily banned. We Eds have no time for dealing with this sort of nonsense, so there will be no debate. If people are banned and want to e-mail the Eds directly, then they will be free to, but there may well be no reply.
Our comments in the thread entitled 'Enough is Enough: abuse - a warning' http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/forum/?thread=45447 recently resurrected, obviously still also apply. To summarise:
"Any personal attacks, name-calling, unnecessarily aggressive comments,
unfounded or unreasonable accusations, or general unnecessary vitriol will result in the poster's account being suspended."
The TMA Forum is a place we can all rightly feel proud of being a part of, and the Eds are fully aware that it would be nothing without the contributions made by so many people on a regular basis.
Every time someone makes a disparaging remark about someone (or their
opinions), it makes the place less enjoyable for everyone, and puts off both regulars and potential new members who would otherwise contribute to worthy discussions.
Please think carefully about the words you use, especially when disagreeing with someone. And at the same time, try not to see offence or a personal attack where none is meant.
